New epistemology blog
Jonathan Kvanvig, in addition to being (so far, anyway) the dominant blogger at Prosblogion, has started an epistemology blog called Certain Doubts. So now we've got two topical philosophy blogs. So far this new one is also institutionally based, since all three bloggers are at the same institution, but he says they've got other people lined up to join. Both blogs display some excellent quality in their posts, though Certain Doubts only has a few posts so far. The Rochester and Brown blogs have been working well, and the Syracuse one hasn't (mostly because most everyone who claimed to be interested in it turned out not to be), with Arizona still in the process of developing. The two topical blogs seem to have started out with excellent quality without need for a period of getting going. I think we now have some empirical evidence that Brian Weatherson was right in his suggestion that topical blogs will be the way to go (in addition to the reasons he gave).

You're right about OrangePhilosophy, otherwise known as Mark Steen's and Jeremy Pierce's other blogs.
I've been telling people that we'll give it till the fresh blood comes in next year, and, if it doesn't pick up, then we'll shut it down.

Actually, there are at least three philosophical topical blogs. Don't forget Garden of Forking Paths, which is primarily devoted to discussions of free will and moral responsibility.

That's right. That one actually went public first, though Proslogion has existed for something like a month, just unadvertized and with a temporary name and location.

Why such hostility about other Orangers posting? Academia is already stressful.

Not hostility, just a bit of a letdown. Signing up 24 or so and then having two people do 95% of the posting is too light. If only two people post, then calling it the grad student blog starts to feel disingenuous. That's why it could be shut down. It certainly shouldn't be much of a stress. If everybody posted just once a month, and a few people posted just slightly more than once a month, then there'd be something new every day. I'll probably send one more pleading email to the others, and we'll certainly leave it up for a few months and see if the new grad students want to participate when they get here.
